“I’ve got my words,
I hope they hurt you,
I hope they scar you,
I hope they heal you.
I hope they cut you open, make you see you’ve been warring for all the wrong reasons;
make you see that some things are worth bruising for;
make you see that your name is your outer coat;
make you see that your hands are accounted for;
pick and choose where you sweat and your blood will go;
make you see your life’s not to be lived alone.” —

“Believe nothing on the faith of traditions,
even though they have been held in honor
for many generations and in diverse places.
Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it.
Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past.
Do not believe what you yourself have imagined,
persuading yourself that a God inspires you.
Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests.
After examination, believe what you yourself have tested
and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.” —The Buddha

“I cannot tell if what the world considers ‘happiness’ is happiness or not. All I know is that when I consider the way they go about attaining it, I see them carried away headlong, grim and obsessed, in the general onrush of the human herd, unable to stop themselves or to change their direction. All the while they claim to be just on the point of attaining happiness.”
